There is no Goethe-Institut in Marrakech. The Goethe-Institut in Morocco has two locations, in Rabat and Casablanca, and that is where every official exam takes place, from Goethe-Zertifikat A1 to C2. From Marrakech the process therefore has two stages: prepare locally, then travel to Casablanca or Rabat on exam day.

Both institutes offer the full range: Goethe-Zertifikat A1 to C2, TestDaF and Goethe-Test PRO. For a candidate based in Marrakech, Casablanca is the easier city to reach, but Rabat is worth checking: session calendars differ between institutes, and a seat may open in Rabat when Casablanca is full.
Why do "Goethe Marrakech" listings appear online?
Because the Goethe-Institut Morocco works with exam partners (Prüfungspartner): private language institutes meeting quality criteria in equipment, teacher qualifications and teaching. The Goethe-Institut administers its standardised exams at these partners, or gives their candidates priority at registration. It also states clearly that it issues no exam licence.
Two practical consequences:
- An exam partner is not a Goethe-Institut branch. It does not issue the certificate and does not decide registrations.
- The official partner list is not rigorously maintained: one of the Marrakech entries still carries a provisional validity note that expired in 2017. Never treat that page as a guarantee; call the institute concerned and, if in doubt, confirm with the Goethe-Institut in Casablanca or Rabat.
How much does the exam cost in Morocco?
Fees published by the Goethe-Institut Morocco, in force since 1 January 2024:

The point many Marrakech candidates discover too late: the "internal" rate is reserved for people enrolled in Goethe-Institut courses, in Rabat or Casablanca. From Marrakech you therefore pay the external rate, MAD 2,500 for B1 instead of MAD 2,000. It is not a penalty, it is simply how the institute prices its exams — but it changes the real budget of your project, travel included.
The module rate also deserves attention. Since B1 and B2 are modular, a candidate who fails a single section retakes that module for MAD 1,000 instead of paying for the whole exam again. Always check the current amount before paying: this table dates from 2024.
What to understand before registering
Registration is online, but a seat is not secured the moment you click. The Goethe-Institut applies three rules that regularly catch candidates out:
- Seats are allocated in order of registration and subject to availability.
- Registration is only confirmed after payment into the Goethe-Institut account, within the registration window. Failure to pay cancels it.
- There is no right to your preferred date: the final decision rests with the Goethe-Institut Morocco.
For an Ausbildung or visa application with a deadline, this means one thing: do not build your calendar around the first available session. Leave a margin, and ideally identify a fallback session.
Be wary of intermediaries
The Goethe-Institut itself publishes a warning about fraudulent offers relating to exam registration. Three habits rule out most scams:
- Fees are paid into the Goethe-Institut account, never in cash to a third party who "handles everything".
- Nobody can guarantee a seat, a date, still less a result.
- Official communication goes through Goethe-Institut channels. If a message or invoice looks doubtful, write directly to the exam address of the institute concerned.
Planning exam day from Marrakech
Casablanca is roughly three hours from Marrakech by train, with departures spread across the day; check same-day times on oncf-voyages.ma. Rabat adds about another hour. A few concrete points:
- Wait for your summons before booking train or accommodation: it states the date and time of each section, and the oral is not necessarily on the same day as the written papers.
- For an early morning section, travelling from Marrakech that same morning is a pointless gamble. Sleep there.
- Bring the same ID document you used at registration, with exactly the same spelling of your name.
Goethe or telc when preparing from Marrakech?
Both certificates are recognised in Germany, and the choice mainly depends on what your employer or Ausbildung school requires, and on available session dates. What Millennia does — and does not do

This distinction matters to you: any centre in Marrakech implying that it "issues" a Goethe certificate is misleading you.
Common mistakes
- Spending weeks looking for a Goethe exam centre in Marrakech and missing the registration window in Casablanca.
- Confusing an exam partner with the Goethe-Institut.
- Registering late, assuming seats stay open until the last minute.
- Booking travel before receiving the summons.
- Choosing an exam level out of optimism rather than from an honest placement test: a failed B2 costs more than a B1 you actually pass.

For a candidate based in Marrakech the realistic path is: prepare locally, register online with the Goethe-Institut in Casablanca or Rabat as soon as sessions open, pay within the deadline, and arrange travel once the summons arrives.
