Digital marketing in Marrakech: where to start

In Marrakech, digital often leads to WhatsApp or the door, not a US checkout. Tourism, local shops, e-commerce: what to do first, without burning the budget.

At a glance

In Marrakech, digital marketing is not an American Shopify funnel. It is Google, Instagram, TikTok and often WhatsApp, through to a visit, a table or a booking. The right start depends on the trade (riad, Gueliz shop, online store), not on a calendar copied from a Paris brand. Millennia Centre de Formation teaches you to do the work; it is not an agency that runs your ads all year.

What it means here

“Digital marketing” mixes three jobs in Google searches: attract attention, convert, and sometimes sell online. In Marrakech, the middle of the chain is local.

Discovery. Someone searches “restaurant Gueliz”, sees a Reel, or lands on a Google Business profile. Without a neighbourhood name and a recognisable photo, you do not exist.

Conversation. The click often goes to an Instagram message, a call, or WhatsApp Business. A website with nobody answering in the evening does not fix that.

Proof. Google reviews, photos of the real room, hours that are kept. Boosting an account whose reviews are ignored is paying for a place the client does not believe.

US tutorials talk checkout, dollars, an e-commerce pixel. Here the dirham, the tourist season and the FR / AR / EN mix matter more than an abstract “funnel”.

Three markets, three starting points

E-commerceMorocco deliveryThe shop (payment, logistics) then traffic. See launch a shop

A riad that “does digital” without holding Booking or WhatsApp wastes ad money. An online shop with no stock and no CMI does not have an Instagram problem: it has an e-commerce problem.

The persona fits in one sentence: who should walk in or write this week, and in which language? Medina, Gueliz and Hivernage do not copy each other.

Where to start (an order, not a tool list)

  1. Place and offer. A verifiable address, what you sell, a price range if you can. Without that, no Ads Manager saves you.
  2. Google. Complete profile, right categories, photos of the real premises, hours. This is often the “near me” channel.
  3. One social channel you keep. Instagram as the showcase, TikTok for discovery — format detail: Instagram and TikTok for a business in Marrakech. One live account beats three dead ones.
  4. Staffed WhatsApp (or booking). Someone replies the same day. Otherwise the traffic leaks.
  5. Ads after that. Meta Ads or Google Search when the offer fits in one image and you know what you count (message, call, visit — not views).

AI speeds up copy and ideas. It does not replace a photo of the place, or the person at the end of the line.

Do it yourself, outsource, or learn

Three different purchases. Mixing them means paying twice.

  • You (or an employee). Time every week. Otherwise the account dies in November.
  • Agency / freelancer. They execute. You stay dependent the day the contract ends, unless someone in-house can read a report.
  • Training. You learn to publish, film, run a campaign, or to check a supplier. At Millennia in Gueliz it is a practical weekend path — the programme. Content-side job: community manager in Marrakech.

Millennia Centre de Formation is not an agency. Campus: 1st floor, Centre d'Affaire Jihane, N°2 Boulevard 11 Janvier, near Bab Doukkala. Reception Mon–Sat 09:00–20:00.

Common mistakes

  • Buying ads before a Google profile and a WhatsApp that gets answered — Meta Ads in Morocco.
  • Copying a Dubai hotel feed for a neighbourhood restaurant.
  • Measuring followers, not messages or visits.
  • Posting in one language when the clientele speaks two or three.
  • Mixing up marketing (attract) and e-commerce (sell and deliver).
  • Paying a “community” person with no brief: language, offers, what you are not allowed to promise.

In short

Digital marketing in Marrakech starts with the real: place, language, a human reply, then one channel, then ads. Not the other way round.

FAQ

What does digital marketing mean in Marrakech?

It is the set of online channels that bring a client to a conversation or a visit: Google, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, sometimes ads. In Marrakech, conversion is often a message or a booking, not a dollar cart.

Where do you start with no ad budget?

An up-to-date Google Business profile, photos of the real place, a WhatsApp number that gets answered, a language that matches the clientele. Then one social channel you actually keep, not five empty accounts. Ads come after, when the offer and the place are clear.

Do you need an agency, a freelancer or training?

An agency if you will never touch Ads Manager. A freelancer for limited volume. Training if you want to do the work, brief it or check it in-house. These are not the same purchase: one executes, the other teaches.

Are digital marketing and e-commerce the same thing?

No. Digital marketing attracts and converts. E-commerce is the shop (catalogue, payment, delivery). A riad needs the first. A brand that ships in Morocco needs both.
